Interested in a Beagle puppy but unsure of how much shipping will cost? Well do not worry, Today I’m going to take away the hassle and stress of shipping a puppy.
In this blog, I will cover two methods of shipping, air cargo and ground shipping.
Alaska Airline Pet Connect
The airline that I use is Alaska Airlines. I charge a flat-rate shipping fee of $550 when flying a pet. This will cover everything, including the shipping crate, to fly your beagle puppy.
Here are the steps I took to arrive at this quote:
- Traveling crate: The crate that I use can be found on Amazon and is called Petmate Sky Kennel Pet Carrier, 21 Inch. As of writing, it is priced at $54.99.
- Next, I used their shipping calculator found at: https://www.alaskacargo.com/#pricing.
- In the “From City” field, I entered “Boise, Idaho”.
- When filling out the chart, the dimensions of the crate are as follows: 21″L x 16″W x 15″H. The weight includes both the crate and the puppy combined, which is about 16 lbs.
- After entering the details, I clicked “see price estimate”, and it calculated the shipping price. The last column, “Pet Connect Animal Travel Column”, displays the price to ship.
Here is a price estimate that I obtained from Boise, Idaho, to Nashville, Tennessee.
The estimate provided was for a 16lb Beagle puppy, which came to $438. Adding the price of the crate and health certificate, $550 seems fair.
It’s important to note that a Beagle puppy must be 8 weeks of age to cargo ship, and the weather conditions must be suitable. According to Alaska Airlines, pets can travel when the weather at both the departure and arrival cities is between 45 and 85 degrees Fahrenheit.
In the dead of summer or in the middle of winter, it can be challenging to find a suitable weather window. This is where ground shipping has an advantage over cargo shipping.
If You Prefer Ground Shipping.
For ground shipping, I would recommend Bailey’s Best Care. They are a pet shipping company that offers door-to-door service.
Unfortunately, I cannot offer a flat-rate shipping quote for ground shipping and must go off the quote they provide. Below are the steps to request a quote from Bailey’s Best Care:
- Go to https://baileysbestcare.com/
- Instead of clicking on “Book Now,” look in the upper right-hand corner of the site. You should see three lines shaped like a hamburger. Clicking on it will pull up a side menu. From this side menu, you should see an option that says “Request Quote.” Click on it.
- Fill out the form:
- In the field labeled “Pickup Location (Nearest City and State),” put the city and state where the Beagle is coming from. For example, if you were getting a Beagle from Jacobson Kennel, you would put Buhl, Idaho.
- In the field labeled “Number of Animals, Species, Size,” put “1, Beagle, 10lbs.” Most Beagle puppies are 8 to 10 pounds at 8 weeks of age.
- For the field labeled “Pet will be ready for transport,” you’ll have four options:
- As soon as possible
- Within a week
- Within a month
- More than a month from now A puppy cannot be shipped until they are 8 weeks old, so calculate accordingly and pick the option that works best. Providing a longer lead time increases the chances of staying on schedule.
- Next, choose which shipping method you want a quote for. The options are: private transport, shared transport, or flight nanny. I usually choose shared transport as it’s often the most cost-effective.
- Finally, fill out the remaining fields and press submit. You should receive an email from them, most likely within 72 hours, with your quote.
I hope this information helps when considering shipping a Beagle puppy.
