A Tricolor Beagle

A tricolor beagle can be any type of Beagle with three distinct colors. The most common tricolor is black, white and tan; however, a tri color Beagle can also be brown, white and tan, blue, tan and white, black, red and white, and black, tan and blue ticked.

Now that we have establish that tricolor simply means a beagle with three distinct colors lets take a look at each of these Beagles.

Classic Tricolor Beagle or Black, White and Tan.

When someone pictures a Beagle, they often think of what I like to call the classic tricolor. The classic tricolor is black, white and tan. Here is a picture of our dog Luna, who is an example of a classic tricolor.

Classic Tricolor Beagle

As you can see from the photo, she clearly has three distinct colors. Tan on her head and shoulders, white on her chest and black everywhere else. However, like I stated above, this type of Beagle is not the only tricolor out there.

Tan, White and Brown Beagle.

Here is another one of my dogs that is considered a tricolor.

Once again, you can see three distinct colors in him. His head is tan, his chest and legs are white, while the rest of his body is brown.

Although most consider this type of Beagle a Chocolate Beagle, the term “Chocolate Beagle” is not recognized by any major kennel. They have to be registered as a tricolor brown, white and tan dog.

Black, White and Blue tick Beagle.

The blue tick Beagle can look like the classic tricolor Beagle with one exception. The white coloring of a blue tick will have a bluish color speckled throughout.

Depending on how heavy the ticking is, the white can sometimes look almost like a gray ash color to the eye. Here is a picture of our little girl GaLexy who is a blue ticked.

GaLexy is not consider a “heavy” blue ticked but even still, you can see the bluish color woven within her white pattern on her back and legs.

Blue, Tan and White “Silver” Beagle!

The tricolor: blue, white and tan or “Silver” Beagle is also consider a Tricolor Beagle. These Beagles are almost the opposite of a Blue Ticked Beagle. Where a Blue Tick has blue showing though on their white, a Blue Beagle has blue woven in where their black is.

The blue mixed with the black can give them a silver look, hence why they are sometime refereed to as a Silver Beagle.

I do not have a Silver Beagle myself but if you type in a blue or silver Beagle on google, pictures will show up. Also you can go to Lazy G Kennel, who has a Blue Beagle that goes by Gunner.

TriColor Beagle Conclusion.

As you can see, there are many different color of Beagles, that are considered as tricolor. A tricolor simply means a Beagle that has three distinct colors about it.

It does not matter what combination of colors make up the colors as long as the three colors are there. If you are interested in a Tricolor Beagle, take some time and find pictures of different options that are out there.
