Beagle Tricolor Puppies are cute Beagle puppies that will grow up to have three different colors on them. The most common tricolor Beagle puppy is black, white and tan. However there are many other Tricolor Beagles to choose from as well.
I have written an article that explains the different tricolors out there. If you are interested, the article is titled; A Tricolor Beagle. In this article I will mainly focus on what you should look for and expect in a Beagle puppies first seven weeks of life.
For the purpose of this article, I will mainly focus on the black, white and tan Beagle.
Beagle Tricolor Puppies at Week 1
During the tricolor puppies first week of life, there will mainly be only two colors; black and white. The brown will come in as the weeks progress.
Their ears will not be fully developed at this stage, but will simply look like small triangles coming out of their heads. Their black nose will also have pink spots that will go away with time.
If you are interested in why they might have pink on their nose, you can read our article titled: Why Does my Beagle Puppy Have a Pink Nose?
Something to remember when picking out a tricolor beagle at this stage, is that the white can sometimes fade as they grow. Take the above picture for example.
This male beagle had a small patch of white on its neck at 1 week old, but as he aged that marking disappeared and he became a solid black on the back.
Here is a picture of a Chocolate Beagle to further show this point.
This puppy at one week old had a small dot of white on its forehead. As you can see at eight weeks old, the small white dot is almost completely gone. Give it more time and it will disappear completely.
Just something to keep in mind as you make your pick. Small white marking often vanish as a Tricolor Beagle puppy ages. If you want markings on your Beagle, make sure you pick a puppy with strong white markings so they will still be there as they age.
Beagle Tricolor Puppies at Week 2
When a Beagle is two weeks old, their eyes may or may not be open. The brown around their eyes is coming in and will become more noticeable every week. Their nose might still have pink spots, but that should continue to vanish with time.
Beagle Tricolor Puppies at Week 3
This is where the fun begins! By week 3 the Tricolor Beagle puppies will all have their eyes open. Their ears will be growing fast now and they will start to gain more tan around their eyes and forehead.
At this stage they are also getting up off their bellies and are beginning to walk on their paws. Of course they are still new at walking and are awfully clumsy at this stage.
Beagle Tricolor Puppies at Week 4
As you can see, by four weeks old they are really starting to develop. Their ears are continuing to grow and their tan color can really start to show.
They can also appear quite chubby at this stage as they still have a great deal of their puppy fat still on them. Believe it or not, at this stage they can be introduced to solid puppy food, thus beginning the weaning process.
Since the puppy is still young, the food will have to be crushed up and mixed with a liquid to form a mush. This will help them to get use to solid foods and lower the risk of choking.
Beagle Tricolor Puppies at Week 5
Week 5 is about the same as week four. It’s just that they are further along in the weaning process. The food is not quite as mushy as before. This is also a good time to visit your puppy, as they are super active and love to play with you or other puppies. However, they cannot play long, as they get tired really easily at this stage.
Beagle Tricolor Puppies at Week 6
At weeks six the Tricolor Beagle puppies should be weaned or getting very close to being weaned from their mother.
A Beagle can actually leave their mother at this stage and go home to their family. Most breeders however, wait until the puppy is 8 weeks old before letting them go.
Week 6 – 8 is a critical time for a puppy. It is the age where they develop their social skills.
A site called Wag puts it best they state:
“Weeks six to eight are super important and will play a large role in how your pup perceives the human world. Your little one will be schooled on bite inhibition by their mother and littermates, further their socialization, and continue to explore their surroundings.” You can read the full article at: https://wagwalking.com/lifestyle/dog-ownership/puppyhood-what-to-expect-at-6-to-8-week
Beagle Tricolor Puppies, Week 7
So this is it, week 7. Your Beagle puppy is about ready to go home. By this time, they should be fully independent of mom. They should have all the traits of a Beagle puppy.
They will have long ears and three colors about them. However something to keep in mind, your puppy will continue to change in color and looks as they grow. I like to give Beagles about 6 to 9 months to fully come into their look.
Conclusion
Through out this article I have used pictures of the same puppy for each week to demonstrate how much a Beagle can change in such a short time.
As you can see, the big white mark he had at week 1 is not so big anymore at week 7. Keep that in mind as you make your pick. Sometimes features you see and like at week one can be gone by the time the Beagle is fully grown. However if treated right, a Beagle can still become a lifelong friend, regardless of how they look.
