One of the questions that comes up quite often, is why does my Beagle puppy have a pink nose and how long does it last?
Almost all Beagle puppies are born with a pink nose. The reason for this is that young puppies lack pigment in their noses. Once the Beagle puppy starts to age, they will gain pigment in their nose, changing their nose from pink to the color their nose is supposed to be.
Usually this process takes a few weeks and may not be noticeable on a day to day basis. However, if you are nervous that your Beagles nose is not changing then take pictures on a weekly basis, that way you can look back from week to week and see if there has been a change or not.
How Long Before My Beagle’s Pink Nose is Completely Gone?
Most Beagles will have a solid nose color by eight weeks old. It is important, however, to remember that this is not always the case. Some Beagles progress much slower then others.
Here is an example of a Beagle that is eight weeks old and still does not have a solid black nose.
As you can see from the above picture, Nova did not have a solid black nose at 8 weeks old. There is still quite a bit of pink to it. Was I concerned when I picked her up? Absolutely not.
The breeder that I picked Nova up from took weekly pictures. When I looked back at those pictures I could tell that each week, Nova gained more and more black on her nose.
So how long did it take for my tiny Beagles nose to go completely black? To be honest I am not entirely sure, but here is another picture of her at 9 months.
In her 9 month photo, Nova’s nose was completely black except for two small spots on the inside of her nostrils. Once she turned a year, even those two pink spots inside her nose were gone.
So when is a good time to worry about your Beagle’s nose? The answer is there is usually no need to worry. If your Beagle puppy does not have a solid colored nose by 8 weeks of age all will still be okay.
Even if there is just a spot on it, chances are that each week it will continue to grow until the entire nose is one solid color. If you have gotten a Beagle whose nose is a little behind, do not panic. I would give your Beagle six to nine months before their nose becomes a solid color
